School Watch is a FREE project created and sponsored by Closewatch Ltd in association with the British Trust for Ornithology’s nest record scheme.
To create an awareness of our wild birds in their natural surroundings, whilst simultaneously providing an interesting learning medium for our children to develop their powers of observation, literacy and numeracy skills, and to participate in a national survey.
To observe the daily activity in the nests, nest boxes and on the bird feeders, then by recording the results on to the record sheets, give the children a great opportunity to extend their powers of accurate observation. They can then expand their writing and numeracy skills in an exciting and fun environment and help a worthwhile nationwide collection of valuable data.
To supply your school with all the master copies of the record sheets, observation cards and over 40 different bird recognition sheets, that can be coloured in by the pupils. (Phase 1).
The next stage will be totally separate from the BTO input. When we have completed all the forms, record sheets and recognition sheets, Phase 2 will be sent to you detailing all the mammals followed by Phase 3 (Insects), and finally Phase 4 (Wild flowers).
The above packages will be free of charge.
If you do not have a nest box and feeder camera kit, then a nest box and feeder pack can be provided at COST PRICE. Any additional feeders and nest boxes will be supplied at trade price. We also have several nest box kits available for the children to assemble, and come complete with all instructions. These can be supplied with or without cameras. Prices on request.
