Dear Headteacher and Literacy Co-ordinator,
Are you are thinking of an author visit to coincide with this year's World Book Day? If you are, would you consider me?
As a children's non-fiction author my visits offer something different from ones made by fiction writers or poets. I offer a variety of sessions for all ages (EYFS, KS1 and KS2), including talks, readings, writing and role-play workshops.
You could book me for a whole school visit, or you might want me to work with a particular year group or class. You choose what you would like.
First World War sessions
Are you still teaching the First World War? If you are, I offer a totally unique experience in which I role-play in uniform as Corporal Fred Horsnell, whose trench letters I own, written 1915–1918.
I use extracts from Corporal Horsnell's letters to tell his story. Children then write letters of their own, as if they were 'Somewhere in France', modelled on the real letters they've heard.
Make a Non-Fiction Book role-play workshop
Schools can now buy my Make a Non-Fiction Book role-play workshop. It comes as a complete pack with an easy-to-follow Teacher's Guide.
I've been delivering this workshop in person for many years, but now you can deliver it in your own time, and work through its many activities at your own pace. You can deliver it in one long session, or over a series of shorter sessions.
Each pack contains resources for up to 40 children, and is suitable for Y3–Y6. Prices start at £49 for a single pack, with discounts for multiple packs. Free P&P, and your money back if not completely satisfied. Full details are on my website.
