I am writing on behalf of Dr David Hemery CBE, Olympic Gold Medallist and educator. In 2008 David founded the educational Charity, 21st Century Legacy to run the Be the Best you can Be! Programme to help fulfil the London 2012 Bid promise that our Games would be an inspiration to the youth of Britain and the rest of the world. David would be very happy to speak at your next gathering of Headteachers to share how this Programme can make a difference in your School. Although the Programme is not focussed on sport, it captures the power of our Games to inspire young people as a legacy from London 2012.
The Be the Best you can Be! Programme enables Schools to realise their individual vision and mission statements of enabling every child to achieve and succeed through raising aspirations and generating self-awareness and self-responsibility – the qualities of Champions. The intent is to inspire, engage and empower young people to unlock their potential and realise their dreams.
Following the success of last year, over 10,000 young people are now engaged in the Programme in Secondary Schools across the UK with a similar number expected to start in January 2012 – an ideal timing for the run up to our Games. David has been very warmly received around the country in giving these presentations to groups of Headteachers using a 30 minute slot within one of the regularly scheduled gatherings.
