Dear Head of English / Literacy, Librarian

An author visit can help bring your literacy work to life, but it can also do much more. Many authors don't just talk about writing. They can also talk about the topics they write about and, in the process, help you link together different areas of the curriculum. You can find plenty of authors willing to visit your school at www.contactanauthor.co.uk as well as hints and tips to help the visit run smoothly.

World Book Day is on 7 March so we're sure most of you have already planned any related school's activities, In case you haven't, we've asked authors who are still free for that date to mention that in the short description that shows under their name on the search results.

Many of our authors are willing to run workshops to help inspire your students to write. A workshop by an author/illustrator can inspire art work as well, and children are fascinated to see how characters come to live with just a few strokes of the pen.

If you've only a limited budget, try minimising costs by using our search facility to locate authors who live close to your school. You could also try getting together with another school in your area to share the cost of a visit.

With best wishes
Diana
