Youth Cultural Champions Programme

A unique resource to show teachers how to replicate the Youth Cultural Champions Programme in their own schools.

The Youth Cultural Champions is an innovative programme led by Devon’s Ethnic Minority Achievement team.  The Youth Cultural Champion programme helps schools to effectively fulfil their duty to promote Community Cohesion and their statutory duty to promote race equality.  Workshop activities include icebreaker games; artefact boxes; self portraits; frequently asked questions; presentation preparation and delivery and the ATOMS model.

This innovative resource will help teachers empower young students, particularly Black minority ethnic (BME) students, mixed heritage students and those for whom English is an additional language (EAL), to talk confidently about their country, language and religion to a variety of audiences, especially through transition with Primary pupils.  This active involvement of students reflects the attributes of a successful school in valuing diversity and supports their statutory duty to promote race equality.
