Fatherhood Institute Conference; 

Brilliant Ideas for Involving Fathers in Schools and Children’s Learning:

On March 18th 2011 at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London, we are hosting a major conference to explore how to enhance the contribution fathers make to their children’s educational attainment and learning.  The event will have a focus on how to develop an effective approach to engaging fathers of children from poorer backgrounds.  This will be of particular interest to schools as they develop their thinking on how to use the Pupil Premium. 

Delegates will hear from a Government Minister (invited) about what the Coalition’s agenda for schools means for engaging fathers, and from professionals and fathers about innovative local initiatives that are already transforming children’s experience of schooling by involving their dads. 

We will also be launching our newest publication:  The Dad Factor Guide.  A 24 page resource for schools and early year’s settings packed full of ideas and case materials on engaging fathers in their children’s learning.

Presentations and Workshops include:

Stag Lane Primary School in Harrow, with Campaign for Learning:
Hear from teachers and fathers about how their creative animation project successfully engaged fathers with their children to significantly improve educational attainment.

Chris Barnardo:  Dragon’s Den entrepreneur and founder of successful website Dadcando will talk about resources to support separated families to engage in creative projects with their children.

Portsmouth Local Authority: The UK’s first Local Authority to undertake our pioneering Dads Included Test across their service focusing on schools and how they can create father-inclusive practice by re-considering their approaches to parental engagement.

Ben Yeo:  Manager of the Stepney Partnership: Ben wiill talk about using Fathers’ Story Week to engage fathers with their children’s learning in the diverse schools of Tower Hamlets.

Dr Margy Whalley:  Director of the Research, Development and Training Base Pen Green in Corby: is expert in parental engagement in early years and will talk about the impacts that positive engagement can have on children.

Mark Chester: Liverpool Football Club’s Family Officer: “Tactics 4 Families”, which has been featured on BBC’s Match of the Day and the Sunday Times, uses the language and principles of football to promote key messages about family life. Mark will demonstrate the programme and explain how educationalists can use the “Tactics 4 Families” resources.

Adrienne Burgess: Director of Research The Fatherhood Institute: Will present the latest findings from our latest research summary into fathers’ impacts on their children’s learning and achievement.
