I am writing to you as I understand that you are the person most likely to be involved with organising the school ski trip. This July, I am running two separate on-snow Alpine Ski Leader courses in Les Deux Alpes, France, that I hope may be of interest to you. We will also as usual be running an October half term course. Our website www.glacierskicoaching.com has an ASL page with further details, where you can also view our summer movie to give you an idea of what is available. Ski trip risk assessments throw up many potential hazards, which is why Snow Sport Scotland designed the Alpine Ski Leader (ASL) qualification for teachers or other responsible adults. The ASL qualification is widely recognised as the most appropriate award for skiers taking sole charge of groups in the mountain environment. The award covers a range of responsibilities including planning, organising, supervising, leading and teaching. This award offers the opportunity to gain technical competence in leading skiers within the bounds of a ski resort in a mountain environment at home and abroad A Ski Leader is licensed and insured to teach their own group from beginner up to basic parallel standard, and a Ski Leader may operate anywhere within the remit of the award. This is a really fun course to participate in, and the location is amazing. Here is what some of our previous ASL candidates have said after the course:
Please contact us at rodfrazer@hotmail.com for summer 2011 dates and prices. Thank you in advance for passing this on to any interested parties, or printing off for your teacher notice board. Any parents that may accompany groups as assistors may be grateful for this information too. In the past some of our candidates have benefited from Sports Council grants to attend this course. I look forward to hearing from you, and please do not hesitate to get in touch if I can be of further assistance.
