International Baccalaureate

4th February, 2013. Ambassadors Bloomsbury Hotel, London

A one day conference for senior school leaders on the IB programmes of study and their impact on
creative and transformational learning, and raising student achievement.

Organised by the IB Schools and Colleges Association (IBSCA)

"We're replacing the GCSE – whose designs faults were exposed once again over the last twelve months – with new exams which will have to match the sort of standards expected in the highly successful… International Baccalaureate." (Michael Gove, October, 2012)

‘‘The Government’s latest plans to overhaul A-levels in favour of a new A-Bacc seem to be an acknowledgement that a Baccalaureate style education is best placed to equip students with the skills required by universities and employers, and to ensure that the UK is internationally competitive. The International Baccalaureate has decades of experience of delivering this type of education through its Diploma Programme, an internationally recognised, highly respected qualification’ (Adrian Kearney, IBAEM Regional Director)

This conference gives schools, colleges and academies the opportunity to find out about all International Baccalaureate programmes, which have a proven track record of consistency, high standards and innovation.

IB programmes are offered in over 200 schools and colleges in the UK, and nearly 3, 500 globally. Schools value the independence of the IB’s programmes, the professional development opportunities that are provided to staff, and the global outlook they give students, preparing them effectively for the 21st century.

Keynote speakers at this conference will be Gareth Mills, former Head of Curriculum at QCA, and advisor to Futurelab on technology and innovation, and Dr Anthony Seldon, Chief Master at Wellington College.

The day will be led by school practitioners from both the state and independent sectors, who will explain both how and why they introduced IB programmes and the impact this has had.

  • The Primary Years Programme (PYP) for students in Years 1-6
  • The Middle Years Programme (MYP): a curriculum framework for key stages 3 and 4
  • The Diploma Programme (DP): the post-16, pre-university qualifications
  • The new IB Career Related Certificate (IBCC): a post-16 vocational framework qualification

An overview will be given of the IB continuum of education followed by a series of workshops which will allow participants to build a better understanding of the programmes relevant to their interest.

The afternoon keynote speaker will be head teacher Jeremy Lewis, Principal of ACS Egham International School, who will talk about the practicalities of developing the IB in your school.

Further details and registration is available on the IBSCA website.
