Dear Head of RE / RE co-ordinator,

I am delighted to inform you of the formal launch of the Islam in Schools website www.islaminschools.com on Wednesday 20th June 2012.

The site is brought to you by the Islamic Society of Britain, an organisation that has been operating for over 20 years and seeks to promote a British flavour to Muslim practice, emphasising the need for peaceful and progressive visions of Islam that are relevant to our UK context.

The site has been live but in a pre-release phase for some time while we tested its contents with a sample of users. It is packed with resources on Islam for teachers and we have now added many more assemblies, power points and lesson plans that are all downloadable for FREE!

The website aims to make it easier for pupils and teachers to find out more about the subjects of Islam and Muslim culture, in a safe and reliable way.
It is presented in an easy to read manner, to enable children across different key stages to explore the subject, as well as teachers to access information that can be used in the classroom.

The website has been put together by experts, but with the crucial input of young children who came up with many ideas to make it interesting and relevant to other youngsters. It covers topics such as prayer, fasting and charity in a lively and dynamic way for early years, but also looks at more in-depth information on Islamic history, Islam in Britain, how Muslims are required to care for the earth and their neighbours.

In addition to general information on Islam for key stages 2, 3 and 4, it also includes an animation titled Sarah's Eid which gives a glimpse into the festival celebrated by Muslims Worldwide, a mix and match game to test children's knowledge on mosques, and the 'Virtual Classroom' which enables older learners to see how the scientific heritage of Islam has contributed to their daily life by exploring everyday objects.

The site also contains workshop information, songs, a new search engine, 'Meet a Muslim', art gallery, 'make and do' ideas, movie clips, vocabulary list, games and much more!
