MedicAlert's First Schools Newsletter
Would any of your students benefit from MedicAlert's life-saving medical identification?
Update – Protecting those with underlying medical conditions for 50 years
Our aim is for everyone with a hidden medical condition or allergy that would benefit from the service provided by The MedicAlert Foundation – the only registered charity providing this service – to have the opportunity to join.

When somebody joins MedicAlert, we provide them with a bracelet or necklet engraved with their hidden medical conditions and allergies. Also engraved is their personal membership number as well as our 24hr Emergency Line where further vital information (such as Emergency Contact details and Drug treatments) can be accessed by emergency and healthcare professionals in an emergency situation.

We feel it is important for schools to be aware of our service. MedicAlert Members now number 298,000 in the UK and Ireland. Roughly 20% of our membership is under 16 years old, generally suffering from

  • Diabetes
  • Heart Conditions
  • Food and Drug Allergies
  • Mental Health Conditions
  • Cochlear Implants
  • Asthma
  • Epilepsy
  • Thyroid Disorders

Oliver Oliver
Oliver suffers with a congenital heart condition which he has had since birth.

When his mum heard about MedicAlert through her GP she registered Oliver immediately as it is a very secure option and an internationally recognised service.

Oliver's mum can recall a few occasions when MedicAlert has come to the rescue, the most notable time being when Oliver was on a school trip in France. Oliver was knocked over by a bike and badly injured so his teacher took him to the local hospital to be checked over.

Oliver explains, "Due to the complications with my heart condition it would have been very difficult for me or my teacher to explain the details of my medical history which is why at the time MedicAlert was such a blessing."

Emblem Update
MedicAlert is dedicated to providing peace of mind to its Members as well as their friends and family. As such we have developed several new bracelets aimed at a younger audience. This is following many reports from parents informing us that their child will not wear or does not feel comfortable wearing their MedicAlert Emblem.
