Students bursting with great ideas?
In celebration of National Young Disabled Person’s Day on Saturday 3rd July 2010, The Mobility Roadshow - the UK’s largest mobility and lifestyle event - is offering young people an exciting opportunity to win fantastic prizes for themselves and their school or club. Since 2005, the annual Ready, Willing and Mobile competition has encouraged children to think about disability, accessibility and inclusivity from a young age. It has been widely applauded by teachers as an ideal project for team building and classroom discussion and for many it has become an annual event in the school calendar, highlighting issues such as social integration, disability awareness and inclusive communities. The competition seeks bright ideas from all young people aged 7 to 16 years, both disabled and non-disabled: ideas to help children with disabilities on the move - at home, at school, at play. Entries can be from individuals or pairs and are in two age categories, 7-11 and 12-16. It could be a concept for a brand-new product or service that everyone can use, but is especially good for disabled children, or an idea for developing an existing product or service. Fantastic prizes to be won!
Each of the two age category winners receives:
Plus there are two runner-up prizes of Penguin Books The 2009 outright winning entry came from 11-year-old twins Olivia and Caitlin Brough from Marden Bridge Middle School, Whitley Bay. “We encourage our pupils to think of others and welcomed the opportunity for them to consider inclusivity,” commented Paul Charlton, Head of Design Technology at the school. “For the second year running we introduced the competition brief as a project and I was thrilled that the girls’ entry was the overall winner.” Who can enter? Good luck! JACQUI JONES MOBILITY ROADSHOW 2010
