This year Royal Mail's letter writing competition for children aged 7-11 asks your pupils to write about ‘What the Olympics mean to me”.
We are looking for original and imaginative letters about the Olympics, or children can write a letter to their favourite Olympic sportsperson - past, present or future, real or imaginary, or they can write about something or someone more personal to them.
Prizes
The competition is split into ten regional heats, so there are lots of prizes to be won.
This year one letter will be chosen as the national winner and their letter will be the UK's entry in next year's international letter writing competition run by the Universal Postal Union.
The prize for the overall winner will be a weekend in London for four people, including transport, accommodation, and £200 in spending money. The winner will receive their award from Olympic Gold medallist Sally Gunnell OBE, on Monday 19 March.
Regional winners will each receive £100 in vouchers and a selection of Royal Mail stamps, stationery and pin badges to share with their class.
The three runners-up prizes are £50 in vouchers, a set of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games stamps
Letters that judges rate as Highly Commended or Special Achievement will receive a £25 voucher and a set of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games stamps
On the website is a Letter Writing certificate you can print off for each child who takes part.Categories
We accept letters in all formats from children aged 7-11. There is a Special Achievement prize for children you tell us about who have overcome particular difficulties to enter.
Language and format
Entries should follow the basic letter format and can be submitted typed; entries are accepted in Welsh and Irish and will be translated for judging.
