History Subject Leader :
Effective Chronology from Reception to Year 6:
This completely new course will cover all aspects of the Subject Leaders role in History, and will have a special focus upon effective chronological development throughout Reception, KS1 and KS2. This is arguably the most important skill to develop, and we will identify the learning outcomes for each year group, alongside examples of children’s work. Practical activities to assist transition from EYFS to year 1 will be discussed, and a skill progression and assessment grid will be used to identify successful progression. This course is invaluable for schools wishing to create effective assessment in the foundation subjects that links to portfolios of evidence. There will be a wealth of teaching ideas and resources to take back into school including Christmas in the past! By the end of this course you will:
• Understand the stages when developing a sense of time
• Know how to plan targeted skill work into existing topics
• Understand the statutory requirements set out in the National Curriculum document for History concerning chronological sequencing of KS2 units
• Be able to identify skill progression from Reception to year 6
• Have a greater understanding of the requirements for assessment and portfolios of attainment
• Be able to feed back to colleagues with resources for a staff meeting
• Feel inspired to get back into school to try out the practical ideas and resources!
