AND A SOUND INVESTMENT FOR YOUR SCHOOL’S FUTURE
As the cost of electricity continues to rise, and recent Government changes to the Carbon Reduction Commitment place a further premium on good energy management practice, an increasing number of schools and colleges are looking to the opportunities offered by renewable energy sources – in particular micro wind turbines.
As well as the clear environmental advantages of harnessing free wind power, a strategic approach in this area could lead to success in schemes such as the DECC Energy Award, which recognises schools which have made a 10 per cent or better reduction in their carbon emissions. Meanwhile, an on-site micro wind turbine could form the focus of a long-term science project to raise awareness of key environmental and energy-related issues.
Furthermore, the Government’s recently introduced “Feed in Tariff” incentive scheme pays an income to any organisation producing renewable energy – meaning a micro wind turbine could not only reduce your electricity bills hugely but allow you to sell unused power back to the grid too. The typical annual income from a small wind turbine ranges from £6,000 to £10,000 giving an investment payback period of around just four to six years.
Part of the SIAC Construction Group which has been trading for almost a century, SIAC Wind Energy is the exclusive UK distributor for the Bergey range of wind turbines which have been in production for more than 30 years, building up millions of operational hours at sites worldwide and earning them a reputation for robustness and reliability – both fundamental pre-requisites for long-term investment decisions.
A tried and tested turbine boasting a simple, tough design, the 10kW Bergey Excel offers long life expectancy with minimal maintenance. With no wearing parts to lubricate or replace, all it needs is a two-yearly inspection. It comes with a 10-year warranty and an expected lifespan of 50 years.
At SIAC we are keen to help more schools and colleges take steps towards being more environmentally friendly while also cutting annual power bills and offering their students the opportunity to become involved in the renewable energy revolution.
